While politicians everywhere continue to tell the lie that education will get you a good job, will allow you to settle in and maybe raise a family (or two, considering today's divorce rates), the situation on the ground is looking increasingly dire as corrupt and greedy universities have taken a leaf from Apple and their supplier FoxConn (google it, really, you'll cry) and every other major corporation on the planet.
They are taking the word Human Resources literally.
And so The Technische Universität (TU) in Germany's Kaiserslautern just now is looking for a temporary replacement for the Junior Professor, who himself is temporarily replacing an actual professor in Göttingen (yes, that is how it goes, kids. Subbing all the way, eh?).
You know what they are willing to pay you? Somebody who must be qualified to teach on a university level? € 30 and € 21,40 per hour, respectively, for a course each (I am not going to go into the difference between a lecture and a seminar, here).
And you may be forgiven for thinking, hell, that sounds like a pretty fucking sweet deal! Until I tell you that these hourly wages are not based on a 40 hrs. workweek.
Nope. You are allowed to each bill three hours per week.
So € 30 per hour comes to € 90 per week and thus € 360 per month.
So € 21,40 per hour comes to € 256,80 per month.
And remember, kids. They took out two different ads. One for each course/lecture/seminar.
In other words, two people might take these "jobs".
That might last two semesters, maybe less.
Even if one person takes both these courses, that amounts to € 616,80 per month! To teach, and here's coming the big mindfuck, a course about the political system of Germany! And a comparative course on the law of Interior Politics!
In other words, the things that our politicians don't know fuck-all about themselves (or we wouldn't have had the German Supreme Court strike down one fucking bill after another in the past seven years)
That is how much your knowledge is worth, kids. That is how much they value your degree, that fucking piece of paper that you are handed at the end of your Master's Degree, when they tell you to "go now, you don't have to go home, but you cannot stay here."
Even if you take on both the seminar and the lecture series, you will be paid less than what the social welfare is required by law to give you!
Welcome to the world of Corporatism.
Welcome to a world, where knowledge means nothing.
Unless it of course leads to complicated mathematical formulas that help corporations and banks to defraud you all. Bet none of the politicians will tell you that, though. Remember that. The next time they will tell you to "think about the children! Why is nobody thinking about the children!"
Remember that they are lying to you. Remember that you cannot trust a single word they say.
