MEMORY LANE: BONNIE RAITT

And we shall conclude this little walk down memory lane with another one of them damn singer-songwriters. Those who listen to the Taylor Swifts of today, the Carrie Underwoods, the ones who have no fucking right to sing songs about breaking hearts (when exactly was your heart broken, Taylor, while you have been hopping from one male glamour star to the next, eh? Gosh, from Taylor Lautner to Jake Gyllenhaal. I am so impressed with your sad life's story), those don't know how an aching heart should sound, and how a woman should look.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, here is the Queen of Heartache, and not only can you hear the truth in her voice, the yearning and the longing and the deep regret, no, you can see it in her beautiful face, aged gracefully and with each line, may it have been caused by laughter or sorrow, being nothing less than a badge of courage.

Here she is, Bonnie Raitt.
Turn down the lights
Turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize
Don't patronize me.

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't.
I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holdin me
Mornin will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight.

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't.
